Why would a 78-year-old family business from Nebraska buy 21 convenience stores from a much bigger grocery chain?
That is the part I can't get past.
Bosselman Enterprises didn't just pick up a couple of stores around the corner. In June 2026, its Pump & Pantry division agreed to buy 21 standalone Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh locations across Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota. The deal closed in July and took Pump & Pantry from 48 stores to 69.
And then Brandi Bosselman, president of the family business, said the long-term goal is much bigger.
200 stores by 2030. Now that's a different story. Because we're not really talking about a Nebraska gas-station company buying some extra gas stations.
We're talking about a family business that thinks the boring roadside stop still has a lot of room to grow.
And honestly, the more you look at what people actually buy inside these places, the more the strategy starts to make sense.
