What happens when your favorite little taco spot gets so good that Wall Street finally notices?
That's the uncomfortable question New York taco fans are suddenly asking.
Los Tacos No. 1 started as a tiny stand inside Chelsea Market in 2013. No giant headquarters. No sprawling corporate empire. Just a few friends from Tijuana, Mexico, and Brawley, California, trying to bring the tacos they grew up with to New York.
Then something happened. People kept coming back. And coming back.
The tiny taco stand became one of New York's most recognizable taco brands. Today, Los Tacos No. 1 has 10 locations across New York City, plus its sister seafood concept, Los Mariscos, in Chelsea Market.
And now? A private-equity firm has invested in it.
Yep. Private equity. 🌮
On September 3rd 2026, Los Tacos No. 1 announced a strategic investment from TSG Consumer, a private-equity firm with approximately $14 billion in assets under management.
The financial terms weren't disclosed. We don't even know publicly whether TSG bought a majority or minority stake.
But one thing was made very clear.
Los Tacos' founders are staying.
Christian Pineda and chief operating partner Jacobo Ackerman will continue leading day-to-day operations and strategic decisions, while TSG says it wants to help the company grow without losing the food and taco-shop experience that made people love it in the first place.
