Saturday is the biggest shopping day of the week.

In retail, this is not a debatable point. It is the day people are off work, the day families shop together, the day a store makes a disproportionate share of its weekly revenue.

Now imagine a store that closes every single Saturday.

Also closes for a long list of religious holidays. Also closes early on Fridays in winter, because sundown comes early.

That store is in Manhattan, on some of the most expensive commercial real estate in the country, where rent accrues whether the doors are open or not.

It is one of the largest photo and video retailers in the United States.

The obvious lesson would be that it succeeded despite the closures.

The more interesting possibility is that the same thing producing the closures is what produced everything else.
