Somewhere in Maine there is a pond full of live trout.
Inside a store.
You cannot fish in it. You cannot buy the fish. It does not sell anything. It requires filtration, water chemistry, temperature control and somebody whose job includes keeping trout alive indoors.
And in a 2026 renovation, they made it bigger.
That is a genuinely strange decision if you think a store's job is to display merchandise. Every square foot of pond is a square foot not holding fleece vests.
But it is not a strange decision at all once you understand what a store is actually for now.
Because the honest truth about modern retail is this. If a customer can buy the identical item from their couch, the only reason to build a store is to be somewhere worth going.
And a fish tank, it turns out, is a remarkably efficient way to be worth going to.
