For seven years, Carhartt owned a federal trademark with the words “UNION MADE” printed right in it.
Registered August 8, 2000. Cancelled May 12, 2007.
It was not taken away. Carhartt simply did not file the paperwork to keep it, and the government let it go.
Now here is the part that makes that small clerical fact land differently.
Between 2004 and 2010, the United States Department of Labor officially certified workers at ten different Carhartt facilities as having lost their jobs because production moved overseas.
Madisonville, Kentucky. Providence. Sebree. Morehead. Glasgow. Marrowbone. Galesburg, Illinois.
Those are not accusations. Those are federal findings, published in the Federal Register, by name.
