Read enough business news and you notice a pattern.

Another company is moving its headquarters to north Texas. Then another. Then a big one everybody has heard of.

The press release always says the same things. Business friendly environment. Access to talent. Central location.

Those phrases are so vague they mean nothing. Every city claims all three.

So what is actually going on? Why does this particular sprawl of highways and office parks keep winning corporate relocations, decade after decade, while dozens of other cities try and fail?

The real answers are more specific, more practical, and considerably more interesting than the announcements let on.
