The American drugstore is in trouble.
Not quietly. Loudly. The big national chains have announced store closures by the hundreds. Locations that were built on busy corners a decade ago are now dark.
The explanation people give is Amazon. Online ordering killed the front of the store, the theory goes, and the pharmacy could not carry the rest.
That explanation is about a third correct.
Because here is the inconvenient fact. While the national chains have been shrinking, a family-run chain in Ohio has been steadily operating and opening stores.
Same country. Same internet. Same Amazon.
Different outcome.
So the problem was probably not the internet.
